Tokyo: Stocks open higher on US-China trade hopes

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened higher on Thursday after the dollar rose against the yen following upbeat comments from US President Donald Trump on China trade talks and the announcement of a US-Japan trade deal.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index rose 0.62 per cent, or 137.15 points, to 22,157.30 in early trade while the broader Topix index was up 0.86 per cent or 13.86 points at 1,633.94.
