Tokyo: Stocks open lower

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened lower on Thursday with banks in retreat after US Federal Reserve policymakers hinted at a slower pace of future interest rate hikes in their July meeting.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index slipped 0.13 per cent, or 25.94 points, to 19,703.34 in the first few minutes of trade while the Topix index of all first-section issues was down 0.13 per cent, or 2.13 points, at 1,613.87.
