Tokyo: Stocks open lower as yen firms

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened lower on Wednesday despite rallies on Wall Street as Japanese exporters were weighed down by a stronger yen against the dollar.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index lost 0.40 per cent or 97.32 points to 24,026.83 in early trade while the broader Topix index was down 0.30 per cent or 5.69 points at 1,905.38.
