Tokyo: Stocks open lower on Friday

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened lower on Friday as the yen firmed, with the benchmark index edging down from its highest point of the year hit the previous day.
The key Nikkei 225 index lost 0.38 per cent, or 69.78 points, to 18,443.34 in the first few minutes of trade, while the Topix index of all first-section issues was down 0.18 per cent, or 2.62 points, to 1,480.65.
