[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened lower on Thursday as negative sentiment from falls on Wall Street overwhelmed support from a cheap yen against the dollar.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index was down 0.57 per cent or 168.03 points at 29,122.98 in early trade, while the broader Topix index slipped 0.22 per cent or 4.41 points to 1,971.45.
