Tokyo: Stocks rebound fizzles to close at 3-month low

Tokyo shares closed sharply lower on Tuesday, as oil prices resumed their downward slide and investors eye the first policy meetings of the year by the US and Japanese central banks.

[TOKYO] A brief rally in Tokyo shares fizzled by the end of trading on Friday, dragging the market to its lowest close in more than three months as a stronger yen dented exporters.

The Nikkei 225 index fell 0.54 per cent, or 93.84 points, to 17,147.11, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares slipped 0.29 per cent, or 4.10 points, to 1,402.45.
