US: Shares open higher
[NEW YORK] The Dow and S&P 500 opened slightly higher on Tuesday as Wall Street sought to recover from the prior session's rout ahead of a reading on consumer confidence.
Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was at 16,016.56, up 14.67 points.
The broad-based S&P 500 rose 3.02 to 1,884.79, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index was essentially flat at 4,543.78, down 0.19 point.
Analysts said US stocks could benefit from bargain-hunting after the S&P 500 plunged 2.6 per cent on Monday on worries about slowing global growth.
