US: Stocks open higher despite jump in jobless claims
[NEW YORK] Wall Street stocks opened higher Thursday despite another dreadful round of economic data in the wake of coronavirus shutdowns, including the latest spike in US unemployment claims.
Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 23,561.52, a gain of 0.4 per cent.
The broad-based S&P 500 also rose 0.4 per cent to 2,811.14, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 0.3 per cent to 8,524.23.
