US: Stocks open modestly lower
[NEW YORK] Wall Street stocks opened modestly lower on Thursday as benign US inflation data mitigated investor worries about higher interest rates that helped prompt the prior session's rout.
About two minutes into trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.2 per cent at 25,537.72 after suffering its biggest drop since February on Wednesday.
The broad-based S&P 500 slipped 0.2 per cent to 2,781.22, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index dipped 0.1 per cent to 7,417.45.
