About three minutes into trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 24,334.92, down 1.1 per cent and on track for its fourth straight loss.
The broad-based S&P 500 dropped 0.7 per cent to 2,659.69, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index shed 0.8 per cent to 7,121.49.
