US: Stocks rise on Nafta deal; GE, Tesla surge
[NEW YORK] US stocks jumped early Monday after the United States and Canada reached a deal to revise the North American trade agreement, while shares of Tesla and General Electric both rocketed higher on corporate leadership news.
About two minutes into trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was at 26,648.83, up 0.7 per cent.
The broad-based S&P 500 and tech-rich Nasdaq both gained 0.5 per cent to reach 2,929.58 and 8,085.83 respectively.
Tesla surged 14.6 per cent after chief executive Elon Musk settled with US securities regulators, letting him remain chief executive. GE jumped 14.1 per cent after announcing a new chief executive.
