AMAZON is planning to launch in Singapore, according to a report from Techcrunch, which cited sources.

Amazon is said to be rolling out selected services in Singapore in the first quarter of 2017 and has been making new hires here to that effect.

"The US company is likely to initially offer its Prime delivery service alongside its AmazonFresh grocery service in Singapore," the tech news website said.

This comes months after Amazon invested US$3 billion into its India business and shortly after it rolled out its Prime service in China.

On Wednesday, Alibaba subsidiary Lazada also announced it is acquiring local e-grocer RedMart.
