Oracle closes Singapore office after employee diagnosed with Covid-19

AN Oracle employee in Singapore tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday, according to an internal memo seen by The Business Times.

The employee was last seen in Oracle's Galaxis office in one-north last Friday, and had developed symptoms on Sunday, the memo noted.

Both levels of the Galaxis office were closed from 4pm on Tuesday for disinfection and deep cleaning. All employees were told to vacate the building.

The US-based tech giant said in its memo that it will close the Galaxis office till Friday, and all employees in the affected office have been asked to work from home for the next three days. It is unclear if Oracle has informed its landlord about the case.

Other employees who came in contact with the infected employee have been informed to observe a 14-day leave of absence from the office.

Oracle declined to comment on the matter when reached by The Business Times.

Other large corporations in Singapore have taken similar steps following cases of Covid-19 detected in their premises.

Grab immediately closed all levels of its Marina One office on Saturday for deep-cleaning after one of its employees tested positive for Covid-19.

Facebook's Singapore also shut its office in Marina One on March 6 after one of its staff was infected with the virus.

DBS vacated some 300 employees at its Marina Bay Financial Centre office last month after an employee was confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus. It also did the same for its office at Ngee Ann City Tower A after a second employee there was also diagnosed with Covid-19.
