Samsung Electronics flags 5.5% rise in Q3 operating profit

[SEOUL] Samsung Electronics on Friday flagged a 5.5 per cent on-year increase in operating profit for the third quarter, as the consumer giant struggles with a damaging global recall of a flagship smartphone.
In an earnings estimate, the South Korean conglomerate said its operating profit for the July-September period would stand at around 7.8 trillion won (S$9.6 billion), compared to 7.39 trillion won a year ago.
