Global energy data provider Platts has been a trailblazer in the energy & commodities trading business. It now aims to be a champion of gender diversity in this male-dominant industry, says its president Martin Fraenkel.
MARTIN Fraenkel comes across as most unassuming for a head honcho of a price reporting agency with a commanding voice in the lucrative yet complex energy and commodity markets.
There is no discernible trace of the stereotypical "alpha male trader" in the market practitioner who now helms S&P Global Platts after having spent over two decades running trading businesses for major financial institutions and thereafter heading the energy arm of CME Group.
Straightening his tie for the photo-shoot at the start of the interview, he laughingly points out that his wife and two daughters would notice if he does not look his best. "I got home after one TV interview and they told me, your tie wasn't straight," he quips.
