[SINGAPORE] Sats Coolport, a centre for cold-chain handling of perishable and pharmaceutical airfreight, has become the first in the world to be given an award by the International Air Transport Association (Iata) for being a centre of excellence for pharmaceutical handling.

Besides boosting the centre's credibility during facility audits, the certification signals to the industry that the centre is run to the highest possible standards, said Alex Hungate, Sats' president and chief executive.

The three-month certification process entailed, among other things, putting 80 Coolport employees through training programme by Iata, leading up to a diploma in pharmaceutical handling.
