MinLaw seeks public feedback on proposed changes to legal framework
[SINGAPORE] Views are being solicited from the public on proposed changes to the way the legal profession will be governed here - with key recommendations ranging from who will oversee the conduct of local and foreign lawyers to that of having special entity set up to regulate law firms.
This follows recommendations submitted by the Committee to Review the Regulatory Framework of the Singapore Legal Services Sector (the Regulatory Committee) to the Ministry of Law (MinLaw) on Jan 21. The government broadly accepted the recommendations on Jan 27, and is now putting the proposed amendments up for public feedback.
The public has until April 11 to submit its views on these proposed changes, contained in the Legal Profession (Amendment) Bill 2014. The consultation draft of the Bill is available on www.minlaw.gov.sg and www.reach.gov.sg.
