More efficient energy use in commercial buildings
[SINGAPORE] Commercial buildings here have become more efficient in their use of electricity in the last five years, a report by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore (BCA) on Monday revealed.
The report said, for instance, that the gross floor area of commercial buildings here grew by 20 per cent - from 15.4 million square metres in 2008 to 18.5 million sq m in 2013; annual electricity consumption, on the other hand, rose only 14 per cent, from 5,151 gigawatt hours (GWh) in 2008 to 5,861 GWh in 2013.
The Electrical Utilisation Index (EUI) set up by the BCA went from 333 kilowatt hour (kWh) per sq m to 316 kWh per sq m in that time - a 5 per cent improvement.
