Natural gas takes on bigger part in S'pore's energy mix
Gas consumption grows 12% as new gencos using gas- fired turbines open
[SINGAPORE] Natural gas is starting to feature increasingly in Singapore's energy mix, not just due to demand from new gas-fired genco plantings here - which pushed up total gas consumption by more than 12 per cent last year - but also on the liquefied natural gas (LNG) front, just-released British Petroleum data showed.
It suggests that gas' role in the predominantly oil-fuelled hub here is set to grow, especially when LNG trading proper takes off.
The entrance of LNG here is reflected in the latest BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2014. Although the report does not implicitly say so, it showed that while Singapore continues to rely on piped natural gas (PNG) supplies from Indonesia and Malaysia last year, LNG has also started making an appearance.
