Networks must have diversity, be resilient: IDA
Issue of ownership of network separate from resiliency, says regulator
[SINGAPORE] Even as the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) defended the resiliency of Singapore's networks yesterday, it cautioned against conflating the issues of resiliency and ownership where OpenNet is concerned.
"Ownership and resiliency are two separate issues. Regardless of who owns the networks, there must be diversity and redundancy built into the networks to enhance resiliency," an IDA spokesman told The Business Times.
The regulator said this in the wake of concerns about the proposed sale of OpenNet to a SingTel-owned trust, following a fire at SingTel's Bukit Panjang exchange which damaged some OpenNet cables housed in the same facility.
