Win result increasingly likely for Jokowi

WITH the official results of Indonesia's presidential election only a week away, a win for Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo - or Jokowi, as he is better known - is increasingly assured.

At least seven reputable polling firms and media agencies which provided quick counts or random samples of ballots cast at the July 9 election have named him the winner by a margin of between 2 and 7 percentage points.

The margins of error of those surveys were no more than 0.7 per cent.

Using social media, citizen groups such as kawalpemilu.org (Protect The Election) are mobilising hundreds of volunteers to tabulate the results from the nearly 500,000 polling stations, which Indonesia's General Election Commissi…
