BMW, MINI EV owners to get free public, home charging solutions in Shell tie-up
BMW Group Asia has tied up with Shell to offer Singapore owners of its BMW and MINI electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid EVs public and home charging solutions.
These car owners can choose between 3 years of free charging, up to 10,000 kWh, or comprehensive home charging installation at their private homes.
The free charging will be done at Shell Recharge - the global energy company's first and only EV charging offering found at its service stations. Shell Recharge offers 50 kW direct current (DC) rapid chargers which are compatible with most EVs.
The move comes as Shell looks to expand its charging network in coming years to cater to a growing number of EVs in Singapore, said Shell Mobility Singapore general manager Doong Shiwen.
For starters, Shell is looking to have Shell Recharge chargers at half of its service stations by 2022. It is available at 19 locations across the island presently.
BMW Group Asia's relationship with Shell began in 2014 through Greenlots - which was later acquired by Shell in 2019.
