PRECISION navigation and landing technology can help with safe runway approaches and landings in adverse weather conditions, improving air traffic operations, Honeywell Aerospace and Boeing test flights showed.

The planemaker and the technology firm, using Honeywell's SmartPath Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS) and Boeing's ecoDemonstrator 787 flight test plane, carried out 12 CAT III approaches and landings at Boeing's test facility in Moses Lake, Washington. A CAT III take-off or landing includes limited visibility of the runway due to poor weather conditions such as fog, clouds or rain.
