COE premiums mixed

CERTIFICATE of entitlement (COE) premiums were flat in the first tender of a quota with 10 per cent fewer COEs.

Two categories inched up, while the other three slipped.

Category A - for cars below 1,600cc or 130 hp - fell S$497 to S$52,503 but Cat B - for cars above 1,600cc and 130 hp - rose S$395 to S$57,903.

Cat E - the open category which currently tracks Cat B - climbed S$700 to S$58,201.

But both Cat C - for goods vehicles - and Cat D - for motorcycles - were lower, down S$1,588 to S$48,302 and down S$96 to S$6,206 respectively.

According to some dealers, it was the usual mix of reasons - resistance to premiums perceived to be higher than they should be, and caution amid the slumping economy - that is behind negative buyer sentiment at the moment.
