Electric car future will belong to China, says Ford chairman
Shanghai
THE world's vehicle makers are just starting to bet on an electric car future - and already, one of the most powerful people in the industry says that future belongs to China.
The Ford Motor Co said on Tuesday that it planned to introduce 15 battery electric or plug-in gasoline-electric hybrid car models in China by 2025. Speaking in Shanghai, William C Ford Jr, Ford Motor's longtime executive chairman, outlined why in an unusually blunt comment. He said: "When I think of where EVs (electric vehicles) are going, it's clearly the case that China will lead the world in EV development." Ford is far from alone. General Motors, Volkswagen, Daimler and other carmakers have put big bets on the market for electric cars in China in recent months.
