ON Monday and Tuesday next week, a joint IMO-Singapore International Conference on Maritime Technology Transfer and Capacity Building will take place here.
This two-day inaugural Future-Ready Shipping 2015 conference is the first of its kind, co-organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). The idea is the event provides a dedicated forum where maritime leaders and professionals can review the latest technologies available for improved energy efficiency of ships and - more importantly - discuss how to facilitate successful technology transfers between countries and increase the take-up of maritime technologies worldwide.
According to an IMO statement: "The conference aims to support the implementation of Regulation 23 of MARPOL Annex VI on the promotion of technical co-operation and transfer of technology relating to the improvement of energy efficiency of ships, which requires Administrations that are parties to MARPOL Annex VI to co-operate and collaborate actively with other parties, subject to its national laws, regulations and policies, to promote the development and transfer of technology and exchange of information to States, which request technical assistance, particularly developing stat…
