Global cargo volumes jump 4.5% in January
Mid-East carriers chalk up highest increase as volumes soar 10.7%: Iata
[SINGAPORE] After a fairly subdued growth in 2013, the international cargo market started off January strongly with airfreight volumes (measured in freight-tonne-kilometres) increasing 4.5 per cent year on year.
According to data released yesterday by the International Air Transport Association (Iata), this was a "significant acceleration" from the 2.2 per cent growth in December and the 1.4 per cent full-year growth for 2013.
This came on the back of improved business confidence and a pick-up in global trade growth.
