Gulfstream crash among common type of accidents
[WASHINGTON] The accident at a Massachusetts airport that killed parking-lot and sports franchise mogul Lewis Katz is among the most common type of crash for jet planes.
While landings at airports are more hazardous, take-offs remain one of the riskiest phases, according to John Cox, chief executive of consultant Safety Operating Systems. The trend applies to large commercial airliners as well as the type of high-powered corporate aircraft used by Katz.
"It is the regime of flight with the third-highest number of accidents."
