HYUNDAI Motor Group has partnered with a unit of PSA International (PSAI) to co-develop advanced logistics solutions for the automobile group's electric vehicle (EV) production in Singapore.

PSA Cargo Solutions (SEA), the regional cargo solutions unit of PSAI, will become the lead logistics service orchestrator for the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center in Singapore's (HMGICS) smart factory.

The EVs produced by HMGICS will be the first ever to be "made in Singapore", PSA and Hyundai said in a joint statement on Thursday (Jan 27).

As part of the partnership, PSA will provide bespoke logistics solutions like control tower management, regulatory compliance, warehousing, EV pre-assembly and port-to-plant handling.

The new partnership builds on a memorandum of understanding signed in 2020 between the HMGICS and PSA to co-innovate supply chain and cargo mobility solutions.

PSAI group chief executive Tan Chong Meng said the success of the EV marquee project will help further Singapore's ambitions in advanced manufacturing, intelligent mobility and EVs.

"We will continue to explore and co-create cargo solutions with our partners and customers to enable agile, resilient and sustainable supply chain ecosystems," he added.

Hyundai Motor Group chief innovation officer Chi Youngcho said the tie-up goes beyond a typical logistics service-and-supply partnership; rather, it is a strategic collaboration that will "provide the platform to reimagine the way mobility is created, delivered, and defined".
