SHIPS in Singapore's port waters can now access high-speed broadband for up to 15 kilometres away from Singapore's coastline, in a move meant to boost productivity and crew welfare, the port authority said on Monday.

The Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) said that it is working with telecommunications company M1 to provide 4G wireless broadband network coverage to vessels as part of its "Smarter Port" push to keep Singapore's port internationally competitive through the use of more innovative technology.
