New York City's La Guardia Airport to be completely rebuilt
Facility is dilapidated and plagued by passenger delays; redevelopment to cost US$4b
New York
LA Guardia Airport, the dilapidated terminals and record of traveller delays of which have made it the butt of jokes and complaints for decades, will be completely rebuilt by 2021, Vice-President Joe Biden and Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Monday.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the airport, estimates the overhaul will cost about US$4 billion, most of which will go toward tearing down the Central Terminal Building, rebuilding it in place and augmenting it with a grand entry way.
