Over 1 in 5 cars registered in Q1 a private-hire vehicle
Car distributors flag concerns about rising COE premiums as well as fate of private car ownership and taxi operators

MORE than one out of every five new cars registered in Singapore so far this year was a private-hire vehicle, leaving some car distributors worried about the fate of private car ownership.
In the first three months of this year, 5,100 private-hire or rental cars were registered (see table), accounting for 22.9 per cent of the total 22,315 new cars put on the road in the first quarter.
