Parked SIA jet hit by Philippine typhoon

[MANILA] Two aircraft, one of them a Singapore Airlines plane, suffered minor damage yesterday when gusts from Typhoon Rammasun blew them into nearby obstacles, airport officials in the Philippine capital said.

Nearly 400 flights were grounded during a four-hour closure of Manila International Airport.

Singapore Airlines confirmed that one of its aircraft parked at the airport "came into contact" yesterday with an aerobridge, due to strong winds from the typhoon. An SIA spokesman said: "There were no passengers or crew on board at that time and our engineers will assess the aircraft when weather conditions permit. Alternative travel arrangements have been made for those who were affected."
