Shedding of S Korea shipyard jobs set to continue

Up to 40,000 more on the cards by year-end, from over 20,000 so far this year

Daewoo is looking at reducing its headcount by about 1,000 through a voluntary retirement programme by the end of 2016 and another 2,000 by transferring operations that support the company's main business into a separate company. 


SOUTH Korea's shipbuilding industry - home to the world's top three manufacturers - has eliminated more than 20,000 jobs this year. They may not even be halfway through.
