SINGAPORE Airlines' (SIA) newest class of travel, the Premium Economy Class, is now open for booking.

Come Aug 9, 2015, customers travelling on select flights from Singapore to Sydney will be the first to experience the new cabin class, said SIA in a statement on Tuesday.

The new cabin class will be subsequently rolled out to other destinations served by SIA's Airbus A380s and Boeing 777-300ERs, in addition to the future fleet of Airbus A350s.

It will be progressively launched in other sectors, including Beijing, Delhi, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, London, Mumbai, New York, Shanghai, Tokyo and Zurich in the later part of 2015 and early 2016, said SIA.

According to the airline, the new cabin class will "welcome customers with a bespoke contemporary and stylish design, offering more space, comfort and convenience".

Features of the new cabin class include a 13.3-inch (33.8-cm) full HD monitor (which SIA deems the largest in its class), individual in-seat power supply, two USB ports, additional storage space for small personal items, a larger menu of food and beverage offerings, in addition to a more generous baggage allowance of 35kg.

The total investment for the new cabin class, which will be initially introduced to 19 A380s, 19 777-300ERs and the first 20 A350s, is estimated at US$80 million.
