TWO government agencies are jointly investing in a new satellite-based system costing some S$8.4 million to enhance search-and-rescue operations within Singapore's maritime waters and air space.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) are collaborating on this latest upgrade of Singapore's search and rescue system. The new system deploys satellites from higher altitudes to relay distress signals from aircraft, ships or people, to the ground. It also has more access to satellites and features more advanced technologies that go towards improving accuracy and speed of detecting and locating distressed parties.
