The CBD riding party
LOCATED in the heart of the Central Business District (CBD) on Boon Tat Street is a place perfect for PMEBs (professionals, managers, executives and businessmen) who are torn between hitting a club or the gym when they have a bit of free time in their busy schedules.
At 7Cycle, they can kill two birds with one stone because a workout session at the boutique indoor cycling studio feels a bit like both actually.
It features a dimly-lit disco-like cycling space where the only source of illumination is from the neon lights on the bikes and ceiling. Exhilarating music - from mainstream pop to electronic dance music and bass-heavy R&B - helps you forget you're working up a sweat.
That is 7Cycle's way of demonstrating how, with great music and vibes, exercising can be fun and become less of a chore. It also seeks to encourage a healthy and holistic lifestyle seven days a week - a mantra that inspired the name of the place, which opened in April and is Singapore's first indoor cycling studio.
Co-partner and fitness fanatic herself, Debbie Soon explains she wanted to create a community where people could come together through a common love for fitness, music and a healthy lifestyle. Together with two other partners (who prefer to remain anonymous), they identified a niche for indoor cycling as there wasn't anything else like it in Singapore then.
Ms Soon got in touch with Noel Nocciolo, an indoor cycling expert from New York who flew here to personally train the instructors and design the workout programmes from scratch instead of following the standard Les Mills RPM one that other major gyms tend to use.
The American explains: "Our classes are based on optimal cadence . . . We work between 160 and 110 rotations per minute so that our backs and knees are healthy and strong - that's not my rule, it's science's."
Each 45-minute class is targeted to maximise calorie burn and is open to all levels, from beginners to seasoned indoor cyclists. A free introduction workshop runs once a week for those who are interested in finding out more about the benefits of indoor cycling. 7Cycle also offers a boot camp, which combines cycling with conditioning and strengthening.
The studio takes its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative as seriously as its workout programmes. But, as with everything else it does, a dash of fun is thrown into the mix.
7Cycle's theme nights - including one scheduled for Halloween next week - are held regularly where riders are encouraged to dress up before hitting the bikes, and participation fees are donated to charity.
7Cycle is located at 27 Boon Tat Street. To book classes and for more information, visit www.7cycle.sg or their Facebook page 7Cycle, or call them at +65 6222 8770
