THIS WEEK'S TOPIC: What needs to be done to attract more venture capital funds to Singapore?
Yeoh Oon Jin Executive Chairman PwC Singapore
The approach to grow the funding landscape in Singapore has to be multi-faceted. Singapore is very well placed to be a global hub for funding with strong rule of law, ease of capital flows, clear and transparent regulation and extensive tax treaties with many key countries. Reducing regulatory thresholds is a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done such as the easing of employment rules for the startup ecosystem, providing tax incentives for VC firms and consolidating all grant disbursements to one agency. This will help in the marketing of Singapore as a global venture hub on the international stage.
