Luxury lifestyle prices slip: Julius Baer index

Mumbai is the least expensive city for 7 items, while the costliest one is Shanghai.

PRICES of goods and services that the wealthy are likely to buy lost some ground in 2015/2016, and weaker Asian currencies may well dampen appetite.

Still, the high net worth with a yen for a bargain should probably do their shopping in Mumbai. It ranks as the least expensive city for seven items including jewellery and ladies' handbag. The costliest city is Shanghai.

Singapore is the second most expensive city, followed by Hong Kong.

The latest Julius Baer Lifestyle Index for 2015/2016 finds a drop of 1.68 per cent in US dollar terms, based on the original index which has four cities - Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and Mumbai.
