Asian female billionaires to the fore

They comprise one-fifth of the global billionaire population and are younger.

FEMALE billionaires have grown faster than their male counterparts over the past two decades, particularly in Asia, says a joint report by UBS and PwC.

Globally, female billionaires grew 6.6 times, compared to 5.2 times for males. In Asia, the number of female billionaires grew 8.3 times, albeit on a low base: from just three in 1995 to 25 today.

The report, The changing faces of billionaires, also finds volatility in the billionaire wealth levels. Only 126 or 44 per cent of the 289 billionaires listed in 1995 remain on the list. Others have dropped off due to death, family dilution or business failure.
