Asian investors hold the most bullish outlook for 2019

While investors are concerned about a possible market downturn, long-term positive sentiment is still intact, a UBS Investor Sentiment survey shows.

UBS surveyed over 3,000 HNWIs globally to gauge investors' current attitudes, expectations and concerns on the markets, economy and how they feel about meeting their financial goals in 2019.

What a difference a month makes. Before the year-end sell down in global equities, investors were generally positive about the state of the world. As recently as early December, most investors were very confident about their finances and optimistic about the local as well as well as global economy. After all, GDP was expanding nicely; unemployment was low; and emerging markets showed promise - despite the usual political upheaval.

But volatile markets in December wiped out major indices' gains for the entire year. APAC was not spared, with China's main index plunging 28 per cent on the year. Against a challenging backdrop of global events including the trade row between the US and China, investors had already been concerned about a possible market downturn throughout much of the year.
