THE year 2017 has started off on a positive note, especially when compared with the fireworks that we witnessed at the start of 2016. Global equities, as measured by the MSCI AC World index, posted a 1.9 per cent rise while global bonds saw yields stabilise as the asset class posted a slight loss of -0.4 per cent.
The portfolio gained 3.1 per cent for January, driven by our Latin America equity exposure (JPMorgan Funds - Latin America Equity Fund A Acc USD) and our allocation to the Asian equities.
Losses were seen in our global bonds exposure to the tune of -0.14 per cent from the Blackrock Fixed Income Global Opportunities Fund. Since its creation on Oct 17, 2016, the portfolio has returned a total of 6.2 per cent as at Feb 13, 2017. (All returns are in SGD terms.)
