POISON is ingested by eating or breathing. Venom is injected, usually by fangs. However the result is usually the same, as Nasdaq and investors have discovered.
The FAANGs stocks injected a dose of venomous volatility into the Nasdaq and some have wildly suggested that it is a precursor to a repeat of the tech crash. Those investors overweight with FAANG stocks ingested the results, and it has poisoned their portfolio performance.
Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix and Google - the FAANG stocks - have an inordinately large weighting on the NASDAQ so any change in their financial health has a disproportionate impact on the index, both bullish and bearish.
