BT podcasts' Money Hacks marks 100 episodes
Singapore
THE Business Times' (BT) popular personal finance podcast series Money Hacks marks its 100th episode on Monday:
It has come a long way from its beginning in 2018 - exploring actionable financial tips to achieve financial freedom, to talking about the perils of holding on to too much cash in its latest episode, especially in the current low-interest rate environment.
Hosted by BT's digital editor Christopher Lim, Money Hacks is regularly BT's most downloaded podcast, no doubt because it speaks to the current zeitgeist brought on by the pandemic.
Launched as an experiment, BT's pioneering podcast has come into its own and is recognised by corporations as a viable avenue to reach BT's audience in a substantive way.
Mr Lim said that it initially was "a steep learning curve" for him as he had "no experience in front of the microphone".

Said Ernest Luis, podcast editor for BT and The Straits Times, who previously co-hosted Money Hacks with Mr Lim: "Having a startup mentality helped us reach 100 episodes as we reinvented ourselves with skills we never really had in audio production."
Mr Luis produces BT's podcasts, along with BT's deputy digital editor Lee Kim Siang and a combined BT and ST podcast team of audio engineers and producers.
Prominent guests featured on BT's podcasts include Ravi Menon, managing director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore and more recently, Li Hongyi, director of open government products at GovTech Singapore.
"Money Hacks and our other podcasts are not only well-received by listeners, but also provide great opportunities for our partners to reach audiences in a different way," said BT's editor Wong Wei Kong.
He noted that BT was an early adopter of the podcast format, as it was well suited to BT's content niche. And that podcasts will be an important part of BT's digital offerings.
Thanks to Money Hacks' popularity, BT has since launched two more podcast series: Mark to Market with senior correspondent Ben Paul and WealthBT with wealth editor Genevieve Cua.
- Radio veteran Howie Lim recently joined BT's podcast team, in time to co-host the 100th episode.
