Funds to benefit from positive returns in markets
Normal for equities to reach new highs if the fundamentals continue to support the investment case.
FINANCIAL markets decelerated in the month of June, with the MSCI AC World Index sliding by 0.3 per cent while global bonds saw losses of 0.5 per cent. The portfolio turned in a loss of 1.9 per cent over the month as it underperformed the simple benchmark of 70 per cent global equities and 30 per cent global bonds which lost 0.3 per cent. The portfolio's performance for the month was dragged down by some hefty losses in our equity holdings, with Fidelity Emerging Europe, Middle East & Africa, Aberdeen Japan Equity and Allianz Europe Equity Growth posting losses in the range of 3 to 4.2 per cent. The best-performing fund over the month was the Neuberger Berman US Multicap Opportunity Fund, which delivered a return of 1.4 per cent. (All returns are as at July 3, 2017 in SGD terms, except for global bonds in USD)
This month, with half the year gone, we review how the portfolio has done thus far as well as expectations for 2H 2017.
