INVESTING in the ageing story is not just about buying hospitals and drug companies, said speakers at an event for fund distributors organised by asset manager Amundi.

Rather, they said investors can take positions in companies that provide retirees with goods and services such as home camera systems, insurance, cosmetics, cars, or travel agencies.

Stocks exposed to the retiree market have experienced slightly higher growth rates than the market every year, said Vafa Ahmadi, head of global thematic equities at French fund house CPR Asset Management.

These stocks are less risky because they do not include cyclical mining stocks and capital-intensive utilities stocks, he said.

CPR is a subsidiary of the Amundi group.
