Singlife with Aviva appoints new group deputy CIO
SINGLIFE with Aviva has named Allen Kuo as its new group deputy chief investment officer (CIO) to strengthen specialist skills within the financial services company’s investment office.
Singlife with Aviva is the merged entity between insurance upstart Singlife and Aviva. The S$3.2 billion merger deal was first announced in 2020, and the resultant Singlife Investment Office was established in January 2022.
Kuo will join four other appointees at the office, including senior investment officer Mike Duncan, who is responsible for all of the company’s market-related operations across the front-to-back office.
Investment officers Shae Kuek, Mervyn Ng and William Chow oversee a range of responsibilities from fund selection to production solutions to model portfolio development.
In his new role as group deputy CIO, Kuo will oversee the implementation of Singlife’s sustainable investment strategy. Singlife with Aviva said this reaffirms the company’s drive to champion environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) mandates.
Kuo holds a PhD and Masters in Applied Physics and Mathematics from Columbia University, as well as a Post Doctorate in Atmospheric Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He brings over two decades of investment and risk management experience across multiple asset classes, specialising in quantitative finance and investment risk.
Prior to joining Singlife, Kuo served as director and deputy chief risk officer at the University of California’s pension and endowment arm. He also held senior positions at ING Investment Management and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank.
“As Singlife continues to make its presence in leading sustainability in financial services, getting the right talent on board and choosing impact investments is key to accelerating our efforts. I have no doubt that Allen’s wealth of experience will be a great asset to the team and look forward to working closely with him on our investment journey,” said Singlife with Aviva’s group CIO Kim Rosenkilde.
