IN March 2020, markets tumbled and the S&P500 fell about 30 per cent from its peak. Many investors panicked, and we were busily engaging and reassuring clients.
The key message that we sent was that clients should ignore the short-term volatility of markets but instead focus on staying invested for the longer term and keeping to the plan that we have put in place together.
This is because when we invest in a globally diversified portfolio, using instruments that do not try to outguess the markets and keeping investing costs low, evidence has shown that our portfolios will give us the required returns in the long run.
