IF there is one thing that French interior designer Isabelle Miaja dislikes, it is to be associated with a certain look. The founder of Miaja Design Group has been designing interiors for prestigious hotel groups, resorts, boutiques, corporate and high-end residential clients for nearly 20 years. The Singapore-based firm is known for its "unique and distinctive" approach to each project. "There is no one style, since it all depends on the site, and every place has its own soul," says Ms Miaja.

The most recent hotel she designed in Singapore is the Sofitel So, where the interiors are a blend of French chic and Singaporean design with touches of old and new. The same rule applies for her home in Upper Bukit Timah, where she lives with her three children. The two-storey terrace home has an eclectic feel because of the many artworks as well as decorative pieces that Ms Miaja has amassed over her many trips to South-east Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the United States.

The single mum, who received her training in Los Angeles says that "as I'm an interior designer, the home is always evolving". They have been living at this address for 12 years, and there has never once been a total revamp. "Instead I'm always finding something to add," she says. Their previous home in Singapore was an apartment closer to town.
