Passion for DIY
POH Wenxiang was bitten by the DIY bug at a young age. While other teenagers would spend time in arcades, he found himself wandering around hardware stores.
The former mechanical engineer, 28, now helps out at his family's cake shop, but running Make Your Own is his real passion. He started in June, and runs workshops teaching people what else, but how to make things on their own. "I've always been fascinated by the idea of DIY products, because I believe that each handmade item adds hard-won character and uniqueness," says Mr Poh.
He's since conducted seven workshops. "It's not a lot for now as most of the time I am working out workshop programmes and sourcing materials," he says. "It's still a pretty new thing in Singapore - it will take a while for such DIY workshops to pick up."
